Friday March 17th: St. Patrick’s Day at the Irish Memorial
St. Patrick’s Day in Philadelphia is a special occasion, and the festivities at the Irish Memorial on Penn’s Landing are always a highlight. Located in the heart of the city, this landmark serves as a powerful tribute to the contributions of Irish immigrants to the region. On March 17th, the Irish Memorial comes alive with music, dance, and speeches from local dignitaries. The colorful performances of the Emerald Pipe Band and the McDade Cara Irish Dancers are sure to delight the crowd, while the commemorative floral presentations and planting of shamrocks pay tribute to the past. 10:30 am — The festivities will begin with the lively performances of the Emerald Pipe Band and the McDade Cara Irish Dancers.
11:00 am — Our esteemed emcee, Kathy Orr, will introduce Tim Kelly and Theresa Flanagan Murtagh for the anthems, followed by a blessing from Fr. Edward Brady. Our distinguished speakers include Mayor James Kenney, Congressman Brendan Boyle, and Council Members Mike Driscoll and Mark Squilla.
We will also pay tribute to our ancestors and the people of Ukraine with commemorative floral presentations, followed by the traditional planting of shamrocks.
