Taoiseach Micheál Martin Visits The Irish Memorial
We were deeply honored to welcome An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, his wife Mrs. Mary Martin, Irish Ambassador to the United States H.E. Geraldine Byrne Nason, Deputy Consul General of Ireland Katie Daughen, and members of the Irish delegation to the Irish Memorial on Saturday, March 15.
Their visit formed part of the Taoiseach’s official St. Patrick’s Day program in the United States, which began in Philadelphia and highlights the enduring bonds between Ireland and America, as well as the vital role of the Irish diaspora in shaping both nations.
Standing at the Memorial, a place dedicated to the memory of those who suffered and emigrated during An Gorta Mór, the delegation paid tribute to the resilience, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of the Irish people. It was a powerful moment of reflection, connecting Ireland’s present leadership with the lived experience of those who came before us.
Philadelphia has long stood as a gateway for Irish immigrants, and it was fitting that this visit began here, among a community that continues to carry forward the legacy of those who crossed the Atlantic in search of hope and opportunity.
We are grateful for the Taoiseach’s presence and for the continued recognition of the Irish Memorial as a place of remembrance, education, and connection for generations of Irish and Irish Americans.
