Flag Raising Ceremony Scheduled for Sunday, September 13

As we welcome September and look ahead to the cooler days of fall, The Irish Memorial invites the community to join us for a special Flag Raising Ceremony on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM at The Irish Memorial Plaza.

During the ceremony, the current sponsor, Kathy McGee Burns and Family, will retire the flags that were raised in honor of Tom Fitzpatrick.

The new flags will then be raised by Attracta O’Malley, in honor of her late husband, Tom O’Malley, a longtime and dedicated member of The Irish Memorial Board.

This ceremony is a meaningful opportunity to gather in remembrance, gratitude, and community. Each flag raised at The Irish Memorial carries with it a story of family, service, heritage, and the enduring connection between Ireland, Philadelphia, and the generations who helped shape the Irish American experience.

We invite all friends of The Irish Memorial to join us as we honor Tom Fitzpatrick, remember Tom O’Malley, and continue the important work of preserving the memory of An Gorta Mór and the immigrant journey.

Important Gathering Information

Please note that this is an outdoor service held within the public plaza area. While limited park bench seating is available around the perimeter we highly encourage everyone to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets to ensure comfort during the gathering. This event is completely free and open to all members of the public.
